The object of this page
is to have easily updatable contact information in one place.

zen4men@hotmail.com was inaccessible for a month,
because MS chose to do a security check
just after the mobile number required for validation was mislaid.

2 EML addresses should prevent this happening again.

Swaps

make sense.

Read!

It may look a bit of a read,
but it is less than it looks,
as each line is short.

This sets out Zen's vision -
which we hope some of you may wish to share.

Our Aim

is to build a huge collection of vintage and useful items,
hire them out to good people
who take care of things,
and create a self-financing rolling snowball of resources
intended to help men develop and grow as human beings.

KISS

Keep It Superbly Simple.

Simple

It's just applying CommonZense.

Dovetail
Concept

Ideally, each activity the project sets up,
dovetails neatly into other activities,
so they each support and assist each other,
even if on a very small scale.

What we
want to
Swap for

We specialise in vintage stainless steel cutlery and tableware,
plus vintage decorative items,
plus items that are generally useful to us,
which we can both use ourselves,
and hire for above-average social events.

Collection

We want to build England's biggest collection
of the very best quality vintage stainless steel.

We seek your help,
both in acquiring the collection itself,
and hiring it out.

We have zero contacts in that world as yet,
but we think
build the collection,
and people are certain to want access to quality.

Durability

Until we find a secure base,
it makes sense to let go of all items that easily spoil,
and acquire items hard to damage -
stainless steel is therefore a good choice.

Metal
beats
glass & china

If you bring good quality stainless steel to a deal,
and want glass, china, books, pictures, or other breakables,
that is a BIG plus point towards doing a deal.

Space -
smaller
beats bigger

If general item(s) you wish to swap with us
are smaller than the item(s) you want from us,
that is a BIG plus point towards doing a deal.

Learning curve

This is a learning curve for us,
but we really enjoy the negotiation of a deal,
so please remember the old motto:-
'He who hesitates is lost!'

Value

We are in a slow, steady process of creating Swap-In Values
for a growing number of items listed on our blogs.

This is intended to be the platform
that gives you a good idea of values
before we even meet,
from which we can more easily negotiate a deal.

As Good
As Money

Our vision
is to make as many things as possible
as good as money to you,
so as we build trust between us,
when you see something you know we swap-in value at £10,
and you see it cheap at a boot sale for, say, £2,
you know
you can safely buy that item to swap with us
for something of ours you know you value.

A Win-Win Situation.

Early days

We have to test this out,
so we have to weigh up each deal offered
to see if it works for us,
but in principle,
we love the idea of you
being our eyes and ears in the marketplace of life,
finding for us the items we cannot get to see,
while we find what you want.

Swaps

Swapping Cutlery

Specific to
Cutlery

Our aim
is to steadily improve our cutlery collection,
both in quality and in quantity.

Specific to
Cutlery

If you want to swap-in CHEAP stainless steel cutlery
for books, glassware, china, and other breakables listed on our blogs,
we will swap-in almost everything you can bring.

Specific to
Cutlery

If you are thinking of trading-in your cutlery for our cutlery,
bear in mind we cannot let all our top quality items go,
if we always receive cheaper quality cutlery.

The overall standard of our collection would degrade.

Unless, of course, someone comes forward
who regularly wants to BUY large quantities of cheap cutlery -
in which case you can swap-in bucket-loads!

You get the idea!

Long term
sustainable

To make this work on a regular basis,
requires our creating a framework,
and constantly adjusting that framework,
until it works well for everyone.

There will be teething problems,
but your feedback can help overcome them.

We have put an enormous amount of work into these blogs,
and some cash sales are needed to recoup some of that labour.

As a general idea,
we think we can make the cutlery side viable
if a maximum of 85% is swaps on cutlery -
although this NOT set in stone.

So if you wanted £100 worth of cutlery,
you can fairly offer 85% swap-in and £15 cash.

Alternative

The existing alternative,
is us both selling via classified ads and eBay.

Both take up an awful lot of time,
and cost a fair bit of money as well -
and if you weigh up the combined costs,
they greatly outweigh the 15%, we think.

CY Value -
Swap-out

The value of cutlery offered on the market varies considerably.

A fork can be sold for £1 in Southampton,
while a dealer in London sells the same item for £8.

We set a selling price for each item of cutlery we have,
that reflects where we see it in the market.

We know that these prices look dear to some people,
while less than what some others are paying ( as eBay shows ).

CY Value -
Swap-in

We also set a swap-in 'price' for many items of cutlery in our catalogue,
and you need to understand our thinking.

On many patterns of cutlery,
we have yet to have a single enquiry to buy or swap,
so we have to decide what to invest in both value and storage space.

So if some values look low,
that can very quickly change,
if for example, someone collected that pattern,
and would pay, say, £2 cash per item,
the swap-in value might jump from a low figure to, say, £1.50,
because ( provided the buyer keeps their word ) we have them sold for cash.

So we will be steadily adjusting values according to demand.

Example - Elkington BOSTON forks - we 'pay' £6 each.

Negotiate!

He who hesitates, is lost!

Negotiate!

You cannot make a deal
unless you make contact knowing what you want,
and negotiate.

Information

We have created a fair bit of information,
and will be adding steadily to it,
so feel free to tell us what you think -
our aim is a Win-Win Situation.
